Selleck initially pursued a basketball scholarship at USC, where he majored in business administration. However, his career took an unexpected turn when he landed a role as a basketball player in a Pepsi commercial. Following this, he made appearances on “The Young and the Restless” and various Westerns before achieving widespread recognition with his iconic role in “Magnum P.I.” in 1980, at the age of 35.
In 1983, Selleck crossed paths with his future wife, Jillie Mack, who was performing in the musical “Cats.” The couple tied the knot in 1987 and are proud parents to their daughter, Hannah. Additionally, Selleck has a son named Kevin from his previous marriage to Jacqueline Ray.
