3 NCIS characters who probably won’t be back for season 21

NCIS season 21 might not be coming this fall, but the good news is that when season 21 finally arrives in 2024 all of our favorite agents will be back on the case!

CBS hasn’t confirmed much about NCIS Season 21 due to ongoing strikes, but it’s expected that Sean Murray, Wilmer Valderrama, Katrina Law, Brian Dietzen, Diona Reasonover, Gary Cole, and Rocky Carroll will return. However, with the season being shorter, there might not be room for many surprises, and some characters may not return. Let’s consider three characters who probably won’t be in Season 21.

Will Gibbs be in NCIS season 21?

Special Agent Gibbs is a character many fans hope to see in NCIS Season 21, but it’s unlikely he’ll return. Mark Harmon, who portrayed Gibbs, has moved on from the show and isn’t expected to make an on-screen appearance next season.

While Harmon remains involved as an executive producer, he hasn’t been in an episode since the fourth episode of Season 19 and hasn’t shown interest in reprising his role as Gibbs. Even though Gibbs might not be back in Season 21, the show has effectively kept his presence alive by mentioning his name multiple times since Harmon’s departure, and fans hope this trend will continue in the upcoming season.

Will Bishop be in NCIS season 21?

Emily Wickersham’s surprising departure from NCIS in the season 18 finale was unexpected and left fans wanting more. However, it’s unlikely we’ll see Bishop return in the upcoming season due to the show’s tight storyline in the shortened season.

While there’s been no indication of her return, her exit was open-ended, leaving room for a potential future appearance. Perhaps the writers might surprise us with Bishop’s return in season 21 to resolve unresolved feelings, but we shouldn’t hold out hope for it.

Will Tony be in NCIS season 21?

Very Special Agent Anthony DiNozzo, an original cast member of NCIS, remains close to fans’ hearts. Since Michael Weatherly’s departure at the end of season 13, there has been hope for Tony’s return, as he’s still alive and has ties to NCIS. With Weatherly no longer leading another show, the chances of his return seem more feasible since CBS wouldn’t have to accommodate another show’s schedule.

In season 20, fans got excited when Weatherly teased a possible return on Twitter, but this didn’t materialize. While there’s interest on Weatherly’s part to return, the massive nature of Tony’s return and his hint that it might depend on Cote de Pablo reprising her role as Ziva David means many factors would need to align for Tony’s comeback in season 21.
