Kevin Costner recently opened up about the reasons behind his departure from the hit TV series “Yellowstone,” revealing a complex mix of contract disputes, creative differences, and scheduling conflicts. Costner explained that unfinished scripts and a lack of clear communication from the production team caused significant delays, leading to his decision to prioritize other projects.
One key issue was the restructuring of his contract after “Yellowstone” decided to split its fifth season into two parts, potentially extending into a sixth season. This change disrupted Costner’s schedule, as he had planned to shoot his upcoming film, “Horizon: An American Saga,” between seasons (Peoplemag) (Entertainment Tonight). Despite his efforts to accommodate the show’s changing schedule, including offering to work additional weeks, the negotiations did not reach a satisfactory conclusion
Costner also mentioned that the pay offered for the additional work was less than in previous seasons, which further contributed to his decision to leave. He expressed disappointment with how the situation was handled, indicating that he felt unsupported amid the rumors and accusations that he was not fully committed to the show
As for the future, Costner has not completely closed the door on “Yellowstone.” He remains open to returning if the conditions and creative direction align with his expectations
